GENERAL REGULATIONS FOR THE CONTEST

1) Programme and Aims.
The More Than Zero Festival (hereafter MTZ) is an event whose aim it is to direct Italian production and creative talent towards the international market of multi-platform digital content, with particular attention to bringing together young creative professionals and producers, innovative local companies and the latest developments in media.
The MTZ Festival concentrates on “new cross-media content”: interactive format/ideas/applications and digital content transiting from general television to digital platforms, from web TV to mobile phones, all of which it brings together under a single systematic vision encompassing marketing, value and creativity.

The festival is a meeting place for professionals who plan and realize content and anyone searching for new and creative solutions in cross-media technology.

The MTZ Festival will take place in Milan from Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 March at the Palazzo ai Giureconsulti di Milano, piazza Mercanti, 2. Any variation in the date or address will be announced on the Festival’s web site, currently under construction.

2) Requisites for Participants.
The contest is open to all creative companies, independent creative professionals, artists, production centres and ICT project managers, interested in the evolution of digital communication, without any restrictions of nationality, type of company, age or profession.
Projects, zero-productions and final productions can be the work of independent artists, a team or network of artists, producers or creative companies.
There is no fee for taking part in the More Than Zero Festival.
It is possible to participate in seminars or workshops without any need to join the prize contest, and vice-versa.

3) Contest Items and Categories.
The contest is restricted to works and projects falling under the following categories:

- Contest Mediaset  - Tv Visual Identity: restyling the identity of Mediaset Italian TV channel Retequattro (brief)
- Contest 360° Crossmedia Diesel Tv: imagine, describe and visualize the crossmedia Diesel TV (brief )

Every participant must indicate on their entry form the contest category they intend to enter for. No single work may be entered for more than one category; doing so will result in its elimination from the contest.
Any artist, group or company may enter up to three works in one or more of the above categories.
The organisers of the festival reserve the right to change the contest category chosen by the participant in the event that, during the course of things, one or more of the categories is eliminated from the contest.

4) Application Procedure and Terms
To take part in the contest candidates must send their work, the signed and fully completed application form and any attachments requested on the form, to the following address:

Projects have to be sent in no later than 15 March 2008, in accordance with the following terms: Works and application forms are to be sent in a sealed envelope by registered mail. The deadline shall be determined by the post office’s or courier’s date stamp.
Any alterations to the application procedure or to delivery terms will be announced on the festival’s web site.

5) Conditions governing any work or project submitted.
All projects entered for the contest must be original and previously unpublished. Every author of a work, or, in the case of a group of authors, every one of its component members, or, in the case of a production house, every one of the authors together with the representative of the production house, must guarantee they are the only owners of the copyright for the work they have submitted, vouching that it is both new and original and freeing the organisers of More Than Zero from any liability deriving from the contestation of rights by third parties.
All material delivered must be clearly identifiable and no project omitting the names of its authors or of its production house can be accepted.
The content (text, images, sounds, visual graphics, animation) of the projects entered for the contest must abide by copyright law. Candidates entering the contest thereby accept total responsibility for any irregularities in this context: the organisers reserve the uncontestable right to exclude any candidate from the contest and to withdraw any prize for works that do not fulfil the above conditions.

6) Technical conditions.
No conditions apply as to the way projects should be presented.
Artists are free to present their works using: a straightforward power point presentation a self-introduction on video with a verbal exposition of the project a demo video a demo with flash. Video or flash demos must last between five seconds and ten minutes and be on digital file. These presentations of the works have to be made on DVD or CD. Work submitted in any type of file will only be accepted if presented on the above mentioned supports.

7) Methods and criteria of the selection procedure.
A jury of experts and professionals working in the field will make a selection of the works received by 29 February 2008: the results of the selection will be announced on the MTZ site at least five days before the beginning of the festival. Even though no conditions apply to the way projects are presented, it will be up to the jury’s discretion to decide whether to award a badge of distinction to projects that include:
• a business plan
• a marketing plan

8) Property Rights and Legal protection.
Projects delivered and presented for the selection process remain the property of the authors, who, however, purely by participating, grant More Than Zero use of their works free of charge and for an unlimited period of time, as well as authorising the use of brief extracts of their work in any media form (TV, Iptv, Web TV, Dvb-H, Dtt, mobile platforms, etc) to help publicise the festival.
The material delivered will in no case be returned, it will be stored in the festival archives, where it shall only be stored as a record and used for the purposes of documentation.
The organisers of More Than Zero reserve the right to publish works that have taken part in the selection process, even on different types or support, solely for the purpose of keeping a record and of promoting More Than Zero, without incurring any debt to the authors or to anyone who may have commissioned their work.
Those works passing the selection process will benefit from a space on the More Than Zero website. More Than Zero will endeavour to give development and to promote the ideas and projects sent, while at the same time protecting the authors and producers of the pilot projects. To this end, More Than Zero provides participants with qualified, punctual and efficient legal protection in all areas relating to copyright law

9) Acceptance of the Present Regulations.
Sending one’s work for the selection process implies total and unconditional acceptance of the present regulations, in accordance with Art 6 comma a) D.P.R. 26/10/2001, n.430 . The present regulations do not constitute a notice of competition, nor a public offer, nor a promise to the public. The selection process and the choice as to which is the best work depend entirely on the arbitration of the jury and the criteria expressed herein.

10) Prizes and Awards.
For each of the categories in the contest a prize will be assigned by the jury/sponsors in one of the following forms:

• development and production of the zero number format\project
• scholarships\ master’s programmes\ specialized learning programmes
• professional training
• accreditation with transfer to international festivals.
• technical equipment
• prize money

11) Responsibilities.
Participation in the contest implies unconditional acceptance of these regulations. Final judgement over any areas of controversy or aspects not covered by the current set of regulations is entirely up to the Organisers.

12) Authorization for the Processing of Personal Data.
By signing the entry form every artist or other category of participant thereby authorises the Organisers of the festival and their internal staff to process their personal data, both manually and in automized form, in compliance with the basic measures set by Italian law, D. Lgs. 196/03, for the purposes of: publicizing and promoting the projects and works which have been entered for the course; sending on any publicity material concerning commercial proposals the Organisers receive; publicizing the festival abroad.
